Wild Blue Blueberry Lager

Chris and Colin risk their credibility with this review of Wild Blue, a blueberry lager from beer “megamart” Anhueser-Busch. While traditional beer reviewing criteria go out the window with this most fruity of fruit beers, this is a brew not without merit. The reddish hue, grape juice taste, and frothy head combine to hide 8.0% ABV effectively and tastefully.

When beer snobs sneer and turn their nose up at something like this (Beer Advocate grades of D/F), there’s more for you and me to enjoy. This is surprisingly worth your while if you’re in the market for a surprise or change of pace.

Watch this video on YouTube, if you prefer.

Are we the only ones that like this? It’s possible. When you scan review sites like Beer Advocate for this one, you’ll read some pretty awful things. Things such as:

“Can’t imagine drinking more than the first few sips of this. Drain might spit it back at me.”

“Kind of like a ounce of blueberry syrup and 10 ounces of a lager poured on top.”

“I sincerely think this is the only beer that is offensive to all five senses.”

“The only positive I can find with this thing is the high alcohol percentage.”

“The beer tastes horrible, very sweet, like they just poured grape juice and sugar into what possibly tastes like it used to be beer.”

“If you’re looking for characteristics of your average, run-of-the-mill beer, this might be the single grossest thing you ever tried.”

Let us know in the comments if you’ve had any experience with this. Chris and Colin wholly recommend and thoroughly enjoyed it, but the court of public opinion seems to wholeheartedly disagree.
